Jason's testimony at the custody hearing

Alexis: I would like to hear from Jason Morgan.

Bailiff: Place your left hand on the Bible and raise your right hand. Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help you God?

Adrian: Mr. Morgan. You spent last night in a jail cell, didn't you?

Jason: Yes.

Adrian: You were arrested for trafficking narcotics, is that right?

Jason: No.

Adrian: Didn't understand the charges?

Alexis: Your honour, is this necessary?

Judge: Just ask your questions, counselor.

Adrian: What was the charge against you?

Jason: It was... obstruction of government administration.

Adrian: Can you imagine what a life of bodygaurds and surveillance and bulletproof glass is like for Michael?

Jason: No.

Adrian: Why not?

Jason: Because I'm not Michael.

Adrian: You can't empathize with what he feels?

Jason: I don't know.

Adrian: Do you understand the question?

Jason: Michael needs to feel safe. And he needs to know I'm there.

Adrian: Are you sure?

Jason: Yes, I'm sure.

Adrian: Well, how can you be? I mean, you can't feel what he feels. You can't imagine what his life is like. You can't really take care of him, can you?

Jason: Yes, I can take care of him.

Adrian: You only want Michael because he belongs to your brother, is that right?

Jason: I don't have a brother.

Adrian: You don't realize that AJ Quartermaine is in fact, related to you? You really hate AJ, don't you? You hate him so much that you won't even acknowledge that he's your brother. And that's why you stole his son from him.

Jason: I didn't steal Michael.

Adrian: You're just using Michael, aren't you? You feel nothing for him, because you're incapable of feeling anything but hatred for your brother. Michael is just a means to an end.

Carly: Stop it! Now, just stop it!

AJ: Carly.

Carly: Jason why are you doing this? You know you can't win.

Jason: I'm doing it because I promised Michael.

Alan: Carly, you need to sit down.

Carly: No, I'm not going to sit down! This has gone on long enough!

Judge: Order! Miss Benson, sit down or you will be escorted from my courtroom. Mr. Morgan, this is a legal proceeding governed by strict guidelines. You will only answer questions from Mr. Stuart, Miss Davis, or from me.

Jason: Yes sir.

Adrian: No more questions.

Judge: Miss Davis.

Alexis: Jason, what specifically did you promise Michael?

Jason: To love him.

Alexis: Jason, we've heard testimony that you agreed to be a father to Michael because AJ Quartermaine threatened to take Michael from his mother, Miss Benson. In fact those threats began while Miss Benson was still pregnant. Now, Miss Benson and Mr. Quartermaine are fighting for custody together. How are you helping Michael by opposing their motion? Is there something you feel you can provide Michael that his biological parents cannot?

Jason: Well, what I can give him is the right to be himself.

Alexis: Explain what that means.

Jason: Uh, when Dr. Jones said I never had held a baby before holding Michael, he was right. The only baby I know anything about is Michael. I know when he's asking for his bottle. When he wants to play, when he wants to go outside. I know when he's confused, or scared. And I know how he looks when he's learning something for the very first time. And I know how to teach him things in a way he understands them. And Michael knows that he can trust me. That I will tell him the truth and I would never let anyone hurt him.

Alexis: How did you feel about Dr. Jones allegations that the only emotion that you're capable of feeling is rage?

Jason: He's entitled to his opinion. But I don't think it's right.

Alexis: AJ Quartermaine alledges that Michael is so attached to you because you're the only person who has ever made any decisions for him. That you've made him so dependant on you that he is incapable of trusting another person. Do you agree with that?

Jason: No. Michael actually has grown attatched to several people over the last year. His grandmother Bobbie, his aunt Emily. I mean, this kid just recognizes them and loves to be around them. Now, his mother, he was a little unsure to be around her, because she was gone for awhile. But now, he's starting to learn to trust her. It's- It's the people who are always fighting and angry - those are the people Michael doesn't like to be around. Now Michael learned that by himself, I didn't teach him that. But yes, he is a baby. So sometimes I will have to tell him what to do. But I will never tell him how to live his life, or who to be.

Alexis: Do you love Michael?

Jason: Yes. And he knows it.
