Carly & Jason ~ Christmas 1996

Scene ~ Carly opens the door to her apartment

Carly: Jason!

Jason: (walks in unzipping his leather jacket) Doesn't take much longer to walk here from the hospital than to call.

Carly: (closes the door, concerned) What were you doing at the hospital?

Jason: Nah, long story. You paged me. I know it was awhile ago.

Carly: Yeah, well it wasn't an emergency or anything. (bends to pick up a small dark blue jewelry box with a red bow from the coffee table) I just wanted to give this to you.

Jason: (gives her a strange look, slowly takes the box with both hands) For what?

Carly: (laughs) For Christmas! You dork. (she gets a cute smile out of him) Cuz you and Tony are about the only people I know who wouldn't burn a Christmas present from me. Well, it's not much. (he perches on the arm of armchair, she plops down on the far corner of the couch) So don't be expecting a whole great big spectacular...

Jason: (pulls the bow off, still wearing his leather gloves) Ugh, got it. Oh, it's a keyring.

Carly: Well, I know you have at least two keys, right? One to your bike and one to your apartment. And... I just thought it wasn't so personal that Robin would get mad.

Jason: Carly, she's not mad at you.

Carly: (doesn't believe him) So what are you guys doing for Christmas?

Jason: Well, I have to call her at midnight. She didn't make it home.

Carly: That must be rough.

Jason: Yeah.

Carly: Tony's spending Christmas with Lucas. Which is great, I mean, I want him to. But... No girlfriends are allowed.

Jason: We could- We could do something tomorrow. We could... go watch people skate. You could buy me a hot chocolate.

Carly: (laughs) Really? That sounds perfect.

Jason: You know, I- I tried to go Christmas shopping. It was really loud, like a really loud bar in the mall. It gave me a headache.

Carly: That's okay, Jason. I'm sure there are people besides myself who... only want to see you walk through the door.

Jason: (pauses, pensive) Yeah, maybe. (stands)

Carly: Yeah. Whereas all I can think of people are who would slam it in my face. It's alright, I'll live. Tony'll be home soon.

Jason: But...?

Carly: But it's stupid. And, I mean, it's my own fault. But I miss my mother.

(gotta love that history: Jason later gave that keychain to Lila, which is how it ended up on the Quartermaine Christmas tree as an ornament, where Carly found it, Christmas '99.)
