Scene ~ GH Nurse's Station... (Lorainne comes up to where Carly is standing at the station)
Lorainne: Just when you thought it was safe.
Carly: Oh, god! Lorainne, please. I don't have time right now. I- I gotta find Tony.
Lorainne: To talk about my job interview at GH?
Carly: Actually, no. I have a few more pressing things on my mind.
Lorainne: Don't blow me off, Carly.
Carly: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. I realize that, ah, if I don't do what you say, you're gonna rat me out. (she starts to laugh)
Lorainne: What's so funny?
Carly: I just realized... As much as I hate you, sometimes I'm really glad you're here.

Lorainne: When have you ever been happy to see me? Except when you needed help with one of your insane schemes?
Carly: I know. Crazy as it sounds... I'm actually growing fond of you. You're like this constant in my life. Everything's careening out of control, and there you are - threatening to blackmail me. It's like the whole world can come to an end - and, ah, you'd still be bugging me to get you a job at GH. (she laughs again)
Lorainne: I'm glad you find it so amusing.
Carly: No, Lorainne. You're missing my point. I'm not laughing at you. I mean, in some perverse way, you've become like my best friend. I have no secrets from you.
Lorainne: Well, okay. Then I'll... return the favour. Dr. Jones has been mighty suspicious of you, lately. That's the bad news. The good news is that he's questioning your past - not the baby.
Carly: What, did he speak to you?
Lorainne: Yup. Oh god, don't worry. I covered your sorry butt yet again. And I do this for you, and for what? The man is not about to give me a job at GH unless you do some pretty fast dancing. And - that's the part where you're supposed to convince me that you will.
Carly: Of course I will. I will. Just - it has to be another time. Tony and I had a huge fight last night.
Lorainne: About what?
Carly: About Jason Morgan, AJ's brother. I went to visit him at the police station last night, and Tony was furious.

Lorainne: Interesting. AJ Quartermaine's got a gangster for a brother and the two of you are friends.
Carly: (sighs) Yeah. There was a shooting at Luke's last night. And they arrested Jason even though he was the one the guys were trying to kill. So as soon as I heard about it, you know, I went to see him.
Lorainne: That brain of yours is just truly a scary place. I can't wait to hear the rest of this.
Carly: It's way too complicated to explain anyway. But... Suffice it to say, that Jason is the first friend I made in Port Charles.
Lorainne: The two of you ever?
Carly: No. We're just friends. I like him, a lot.
Lorainne: Go on.
Carly: Jason is... not like anybody you've ever met. (sighs twice) He- He's just a strange bird. He doesn't judge people. And... He listens to everything you have to say. He's like a safe place that I can always go to, if I ever need it.
Lorainne: Soulmates. I love it.
Carly: Laugh, if you want to. But at least I have one person in this town who'll give me the time of day. Tony sure as hell won't. And, AJ. Everytime I see him, all he wants to do is remind me of all the terrible things I did to him.
Lorainne: I can't imagine why.
Carly: The point is - I did what I had to do, for my baby. You know, and if it had been Jason? None of this would have happened. Jason - I would have been able to be totally straight with him. And he would've understood - and helped me.
Lorainne: Maybe the two of you should get married.
Carly: (laughs too much) No. Jason's in love with another woman. It's not like that with us.
Lorainne: Well, look. I don't want you to think that I'm not thoroughly fascinated with all this. However, at the moment I'm more concerned with how you are going to help Tony help me get a job at GH when he's not even speaking to you.
Carly: Look, this baby is everything to Tony. He'll come around.
Lorainne: (chuckles) You- You are amazing. The walls are just- they're just closing in, you know? And you're just right there, plotting away. You know, what are you gonna do about AJ? You know, even if by some miracle you happen to get past Tony, he's still going to be there breathing down your neck, wanting to know about the paternity test. (AJ served Carly with a court order for a paternity test later that day...)
Carly: There is not gonna be any paternity test, if I can help it. (And to this day - no paternity test...) My baby is going to be born into a very happy home.
