Carly & Jason ~ Closure

To save those die-hard C&J'ers and anti-Satan'ers the barf factor (and cuz I don't really wanna type it), I'm gonna skip Carly's whole rambling monologue about the oh-so-wonderful chapel in Martinique and her re-marriage to Satan and how Satan is sooooooooo wonderful and blah blah blah blah blah gag gag gag ad nauseum.

Scene ~ Carly asked Jason to walk her through the park. Now they're sitting on a bench, Carly with her arm over the back of the bench and Jason with his hands clasped in his lap.

Carly: It's just like him. He tells me that we're getting married, you know, in a simple little church in the middle of nowhere and it turns out to be this mini-cathedral. He tells me that he has a secret and it's really that we're getting re-married. (pauses, looks at him for a second) He said that I almost got you, instead of him.

Jason: Hmm. (he looks forward, nods once) I wouldn't go after you, Carly. It had nothing to do with me.

Carly: (pauses, looks away) Yeah. But you always said that you would never take my side, over Sonny's.

Jason: Look, if- If I had gone to Martinique, you woulda been mad. Okay? And cried. And said how much Satan was hurting you. And then we woulda flown back here and you probably woulda done someting crazy or stupid (she knocks him gently on the arm) to make Satan come to you anyway. This was a lot easier.

Carly: (she turns the corners of her mouth down, not exactly a frown) Do I mean anything to you? I mean, am I just that person that periodically does crazy things? Blows up your life? And you know, you constantly have to rescue, or...?

Jason: (he doesn't exactly smile, but his eyes and his face are affectionate) The times I needed you, you stood up. And even when you wrecked my life, you were... trying (slight hint of teasing smile) to do something good. (she nods, looking away pensively) You need me. (Carly laughs a little, looking away, and pats his shoulder. Jason is now doing that Jason smile of affection thing, the smile not so much on his mouth but in his eyes and on his face.) I need you. (she looks at him, he smiles just a little) I'm not sure why. I don't think the reason matters, at all. It's just how we are. (she nods) You know, and it's a lot simpler now that you realize you're not in love with me.

Carly: (she smiles, looks away and down. then, softly) Yeah. I love you, though. You know? (softer) I always will. (they stare at each other for a second, she pats his shoulder again) Forever and ever. Because you made me realize the life that I could have with Satan. That we could actually be happy, you know? (looks upward) Which actually reminds me, I owe you. I owe you something. (she reaches into her pocket and pulls out a wad of cash, I presume)

Jason: No, no, no. Carly, we're even.

Carly: No! No, no. We're not even.

Jason: We're even.

Carly: You know what? If I live to be 100 I could never pay you back. But I can start. (she starts to count, and Jason sighs) You remember that night when Satan and I got married? You bet me twenty bucks that we'd be happy. (she holds a $20 out to him) Take it.

* * * * *

Carly: Take it. (he shakes his head, smiling a little) C'mon, take it! (he starts to reach for it, but she pulls it away a little, mostly likely because her next line wouldn't make much sense if he had already taken it) If you don't take it, then that means that- (he takes the $20, still holding it up) that means that you don't think that you won, that you don't think that Satan and I can last.

Jason: No, you'll last. Cuz you don't give up and neither does Satan. (pockets the money in his jacket)

Carly: I wouldn't have found him if it wasn't for you. You know that? (softly) Thank you. I wouldn't have Michael or anything good, if it wasn't for you. I'll never forget that. That night in the rain, if you hadn't let me in, AJ woulda gotten Michael for sure. (he nods once) That was the deepest hole I ever dug for myself, and you're the one that pulled me out. And now I have my son, I'm married, I have a career... And you live... over the bar.

Jason: (laughs) Oh, hey. Hold on. I like Jakes. And I like it that you're with Satan. It's... It's a lot less complicated than when you're trying to get with me.

Carly: (pause, regretfully) I kinda made a mess, didn't I? I made a big mess, and you got stuck with most of it, didn't you? I pretty much drove Robin right out, didn't I? But you know, I don't reget that, because she was never good enough for you. And I still stand by that. I know that it hurt you and I'm sorry. Because that wasn't my intention. I was really actually trying just to make you happy.

Jason: I wouldn't... (looks at her for a long second, quietly) change, anything. If we could go back to that night in the rain, and know everything that would follow... (he turns to face her more directly, leaning in closer, his arm on the back of the bench) I mean, if you could show me a picture of you, and Satan, and Michael right now, and you tell me and promise me that it would be waiting for me at the end, I'd do it all over. (Carly starts to smile) Came out right for everyone, including me.

Carly: Thank you. (She scoots over to him and hugs him, he hugs her back. Her leg comes over like she's trying to cross her legs while they're hugging, but her leg bounces off his knee instead and kinda lands on his other leg, so her leg is kinda crossed over his, it's cute.) Oomph! Mmmmm. Oh, yikes. (they break apart and she pulls far away from him and leans over facing away from him for a second)

Jason: Wait, wait now. (One of his hands is on her back and the other is on her arm, to keep her and get her to face him. She does this cute move, if it means something I have no clue what. She faces him, lifts up the knee closest to him, leans far back and gives him this look I can't decipher, but she is smiling.) Promise me one thing.

Carly: No! No more plans. No, I've given them up, really.

Jason: I'm not talking about plans. You don't have to wreck this. You don't have to take it away from yourself. (Carly gives him this look like she has no idea what he's talking about. But I think she really does - because that's exactly what she did with Jason.) When you start to, and you will. When you're getting ready to do something crazy, (she looks away, makes a "nice to have so much faith put in me" face) you count to ten (she nods, looking down and not at him) and you remind yourself you already have the life that you want.

Carly: (still not looking at him) I will. I promise. (she looks up at him and smiles)

Jason: Good. Now let your driver earn his money.

(they stand, Jason touches her on the shoulder as he starts to walk away)

Carly: (laughs) I'll see you later?

Jason: Okay.

Carly: Yeah? (she stands there, looking after him for a second)
